Open Packs vs Sell Sealed

When to rip boosters for singles cash vs keep sealed product on the shelf. Numbers and EV shift with patches — treat this as soft community advice.

Two ways packs make money

Both paths matter. The beginner trap is ripping everything for dopamine and waking up with empty pack shelves.

Early game: a little ripping, mostly sealed

Soft early pattern Many players crack a small share of wholesale (often cited as a handful of packs or one cheap box when cash is tight) to seed singles, then keep the rest sealed for the floor. Exact “safe rip %” is patch-sensitive — if shelves go empty, you ripped too much.

When ripping helps

Don’t strip the hero SKU If one product line is carrying your shop (see one product line first), leave enough sealed on the shelf that a rush doesn’t empty you mid-day. Dead shelves beat a binder full of unsold pulls.

When to sell sealed instead

Keep stock for customers

  1. After wholesale arrives, decide a keep-sealed floor (enough for expected foot traffic) before any opening session.
  2. Use the 8:00 AM restock window to refill pack shelves before you open the door.
  3. Rip only surplus, then price and table the pulls the same day.
  4. Recheck market every couple of days so sealed and singles stay competitive (Pricing).

Opening-day habits: Day-1 checklist. Singles layout: Card tables.
